Alder Hey Children’s Charity
Grant received to help fund The Home Safari project

Alder Hey Children’s Charity raised funds to help make Alder Hey Children’s Hospital an excellent, patient-friendly hospital for the 330,000 patients and families they care for every year. Alder Hey Children’s Charity offers mental health support at the Sunflower House which provides care and support for children living with complex mental health and sensory conditions.

Alder Hey Children’s Charity received a grant from the Hays Travel Foundation to help fund The Home Safari project. The Home Safari project is an animal-assisted therapy for the patients in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital’s mental health unit to provide patients with opportunities to interact with animals and pets that they wouldn’t normally be able to access whilst at the hospital. The presence of animals has had a profound effect on the patients and has played a pivotal role in booting their self-assurance and has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on their overall mood.

Several attendees have stated how amazing the sessions were and that the Home Safari Day is their favourite day.
