Doing it for Dan is a charity that was set up in aid of Daniel Climance, who tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident in 2015. Daniel loved all kinds of sport, and found his happiness through playing sport. Doing it for Dan was set up in Daniel’s memory, so other children and young people can achieve their sporting dreams.

The charity applied for a grant from the Hays Travel Foundation so that they can fund athletes in Wiltshire and surrounding counties so that they can access sports equipment, kit and club memberships. With the help of the Hays Travel Foundation, Doing it for Dan has been able to help over 40 young people, as well as an under 12s girls football team.

With the help of the Hays Travel Foundation, Doing it for Dan has been able to help a range of young athletes such as 100m freestyle relay and 50m freestyle swimmer Alex Cahoon who competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics for Team GB. In addition to this, Doing it for Dan has also helped acrobatic gymnasts to attend competitions such as the World Championships in Portugal, and it has helped high jumpers to attend Sapphire League competitions.

Hypo Hounds is a charity that trains dogs to detect and alert dangerous changes to their Type 1 Diabetic owners’ blood sugar levels. The charity’s services are focussed on diabetic children, enabling them to gain independence and freedom.

The charity applied for a grant from the Hays Travel Foundation to provide vital, lifesaving services to children with Type 1 Diabetes through specialist training of a Diabetic alert dog. The dogs are able to detect scent that would be apparent when there are dangerous changes to a child’s glucose levels, and to fetch the kit with lifesaving equipment, vital to the lives of children with Type 1 Diabetes.

With the help of the Hays Travel Foundation, four families have been directly impacted through the life saving work of Hypo Hounds. As a result of the grant from the Hays Travel Foundation, there has been an increase in demand for Hypo Hounds’ services and has allowed for awareness to be developed.

The Neuromuscular Centre is a centre for excellence for people affected by muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular conditions. The charity aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the community by creating an environment where full potential and optimal wellbeing can be achieved.

The Hays Travel Foundation awarded The Neuromuscular Centre a grant to enable graphic design students to be enrolled and study on their graphic design course. With the funding, it covered areas such as an introduction to professional graphic design software, as well as developing new graphic design skills and developing existing ones.

As a result of the funding, it will allow participants to develop into the final level of the course which will allow them to have a professional portfolio to take into the wider world. The project has also even allowed a participant to secure an internship for a year and another in securing a work experience placement.
