Perfect year-round holidays to the Algarve and Portugal's cities and islands

Holidays in Portugal

With dramatic coastlines, long sand beaches, and colourful cities; Portugal has a holiday for everyone. Fun-filled, historic, and undoubtedly beautiful; Portugal is home to some of Europe's favourite holiday destinations.

A holiday to Portugal can be as exhilarating, cultural, or laid-back as you wish. Along the Algarve, the beach is at the centre of daily life with water sports and child-friendly activities galore. Thanks to its climate the Algarve is perfect for winter sun and is also home to some of the best golf courses in the world.

The cities of Lisbon and Porto offer a chance to be immersed in a world of ancient beauty, spend sun-kissed days breezing through chic cafes, and take in the culture of Portugal. Climb aboard a hop-on-hop-off bus tour through Lisbon’s winding picturesque streets and visit various historic and religious sites like Belem Tower and Fatima.

Off the coast, the island paradise of Madeira offers travellers a mix of new and old-world beauty. Hike mountains at sunrise, visit botanical gardens, and unwind in traditional markets or swanky wine bars.

Food and drink in Portugal

Seafood is a speciality in Portugal. Regional specialities include grilled meats and Bacalhau with Pastel de Nata, the national dessert.

On the Algarve, British favourites feature on many menus, along with burgers, spaghetti, and pizzas. International restaurants serving Chinese, Mexican, Indian, and Italian fare put in an appearance too.

The house wine (vinho da casa) in white (branco) and red (tinto) is always good value and you can also opt for vinho verde which is a young 'green' wine, slightly sparkling, light, and refreshing.
