Day 1: UK - Brussels
Travel to the overnight hotel in the Brussels area.
Day 2: Koblenz
We continue through into Germany and visit the town of Koblenz, a city uniquely situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. You will have plenty of free time to stroll through the cosy alleyways of the old town, or you can join the optional guided tour.
The Casino restaurant in the upper castle courtyard and the beer garden at the Kuppelsäle invite you to linger and enjoy the marvellous view. Afterwards, continue to the hotel in time for dinner.
Day 3: Hunsruck Railway & Cochem
Today we include an excursion on the Hunsrückbahn. one of the most interesting and steepest railway lines in Germany. Enjoy the views of idyllic wine villages and steep wine terraces. Opened in 1908, the Hunsrück Railway has five tunnels and two viaducts, climbing 336 metres in altitude over 8.5 kilometres from Boppard to Emmelshausen, making it a masterpiece of engineering even today. Afterwards, we head along the Moselle River to the charming wine town of Cochem, dominated by the ancient and mighty Reichsburg Castle, dramatically perched on a hillside overlooking the town. Enjoy some free time here, before we head back to the hotel.
Day 4: Vulkan Express, Mendig Volcano Brewery & Maria Laach Abbey
Our journey today takes us past Lake Laach – the largest crater lake in the Eifel – to Mendig. From Brohl, the narrow-gauge railway Vulkan Express takes you over 400 metres in altitude between the Rhine and the Eifel, venturing over several viaducts and through a 100 -metre-long tunnel.
In the heart of the Volcanic Eifel, learn about the art of brewing naturally cloudy beer specialities at the Mendig Volcano Brewery and experience a guided tour of the brewery through glass. Afterwards, we can taste the full flavour of the beers for ourselves. For lunch, we recommend a stop at the brewery (not included).
In the afternoon, we visit the famous Benedictine abbey of Maria Laach. Enjoy the unspoilt and purely preserved landscape during an extensive walk along Lake Laach.
Day 5: Boppard, Rhine River Cruise & St. Goar
After breakfast, discover the romantic Rhine Valley. Nowhere else in the world will you find such a high density of castles as between Bingen and Koblenz. It is not for nothing that the region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as it uniquely combines an extraordinary wine culture landscape, numerous premium hiking trails, rich cultural treasures, and pretty medieval towns.
We will first travel to Boppard, the pearl of the Rhine. From there, we will take a cruise to St. Goar, in the famous Loreley Valley, where your coach driver will be waiting. Our journey takes us past the beautiful towns of Oberwesel and Bacharach to Bingen.
Day 6: Cologne
Today, we depart the hotel and head to the vibrant city of Cologne. Standing on the banks of the romantic Rhine River, it is home to many lovely shops and boutiques. Famous around the world, Cologne Cathedral dominates the panorama of the city and is still today the second highest building in Cologne after the telecommunications tower. Afterwards, we continue to our overnight hotel in the Brussels area.
Day 7: Return to UK
Return home.
