Day One: Arrival in Atlanta

Fly from London Gatwick via Boston to Atlanta where your 13-night American South tour begins when you check into the Indigo Vinings or similar for a two-night stay. Join your fellow travellers and tour guide at a welcome reception and meeting this evening.

Day Two: Atlanta

Your exploration of Atlanta continues today. You’ll get to visit Stately Oaks Plantation and museum, the inspiration for “Tara” from Gone with the Wind and enjoy a sightseeing tour of Atlanta including Martin Luther King’s boyhood home and visitors’ center in the company of your tour guide.

Day Three: Atlanta to Augusta to Charleston

Pay a visit to Augusta enroute to Charleston, home to the Augusta Riverwalk and Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History. Arrive in Charleston and see the iconic piazzas of beautiful homes and check into Holiday Inn Riverview or similar. There’s also an optional tour available of Boone Hall Plantation.

Day Four: Charleston to Beaufort to Savannah

Your adventure continues to Savannah, stopping enroute at Beaufort. Beaufort is known for its antebellum architecture, historic downtown, and as the filming site of the Forest Gump film. On arrival in Savannah, you’ll check into Comfort Suites Historic or similar for a two-night stay.

Day Five: Savannah

Today, you’ll join your fellow travellers for a Trolley Tour of the Historic District with its Cathedral of St John the Baptist and Olde Pink House. Later, why not pay a visit to the historic Bonaventure Cemetery, stroll through Forsyth Park, or even enjoy an optional riverboat dinner cruise of Savannah?

Day Six: Savannah to Montgomery

Leave Savannah behind today and travel to Montgomery where you’ll check into the Comfort Inn and Suites in Montgomery East for the night. Perhaps take time delve into Montgomery’s history and culture with a visit the Alabama State Capitol, the Rosa Parks Museum, and Montgomery Zoo.

Day Seven: Montgomery to Selma to New Orleans

You’ll get to experience historic landmarks of the Civil Rights Trail in Montgomery and Selma; before your journey continues to New Orleans for two nights at Hilton New Orleans Riverside or similar. The ‘Big Easy’ of New Orleans is famous for its jazz and blues, beignets, and iconic Mardi Gras.

Day Eight: New Orleans

Perhaps spend today wandering the streets of the French Quarter, enjoying the carnival atmosphere of Mardi Gras World, and visiting Jackson Square’s St Louis Cathedral. You can even experience an optional traditional Steamboat Jazz Cruise on the Mississippi River or a Swamp Tour and Jazz Brunch.

Day Nine: New Orleans to Baton Rouge to Natchez

Leave New Orleans behind and travel to Natchez, stopping enroute at Baton Rouge – famous for its Old Louisiana State Capitol, Magnolia Mound Plantation, and LSU Rural Life Museum. Natchez leads to seeing and visiting a lavish Antebellum-styled Mansion and a night’s stay at Hotel Vue or similar.

Day Ten: Natchez to Mississippi River Valley to Memphis

Travel via the Mississippi River Valley to Memphis for a night at Crowne Plaza Memphis Downtown or similar. A Memphis sightseeing trip takes you to the Lorraine Hotel (Martin Luther King’s assassination site) and Beale Street (home of the Blues). An optional visit is available to Elvis Presley’s Graceland.

Day Eleven: Memphis to Nashville

The next stop takes you to the ‘Music City’ of Nashville. Not only is Nashville home to the Grand Ole Opry, RCA Studio B, and Johnny Cash Museum, but you can also tuck into Nashville’s famed Hot Chicken and tasty Barbecues. Your resting place for the next two nights is Inn at Opryland or similar.

Day Twelve: Nashville

Today lets you explore the best of Nashville on an included tour; taking in a variety of sights and attractions and giving you the unique opportunity to go Honky Tonkin’. You can also learn about the local music scene by joining an optional tour of Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B.

Day Thirteen: Nashville to Chattanooga to Atlanta

Your travels today take you back to your starting point of Atlanta with a stop en-route in Chattanooga to see the renowned Chattanooga Choo Choo – made famous in the song of the same name by Glen Miller. On arrival in Atlanta, you’ll check into Indigo Vinings or similar for your final night’s stay.

Day Fourteen: Atlanta to UK

Check out of your hotel and travel to the airport in time to catch your flight back to London Gatwick via Boston – hopefully with many happy memories to look back on of your American South adventure!
