It’s December 9th so you know what that means… its National Llama Day. Today is the perfect day to take a moment and appreciate some of the fluffiest farm animals around!

So in honour of the loyal llama, we are diving into the land of the llama itself, Peru, and showing you all of the amazing things you can experience on a journey to this South American gem.

Machu Picchu:

A once lost city, Machu Picchu stands high above the Sacred Valley as a relic of the ancient Inca civilization and is home to some of the most famous llamas in Peru. As thousands of traveller’s journey to the hill top summit of this idyllic mountain, it is known for the fuzzy locals to drop by for a quick picture. With around 30 llamas living on this natural wonder it is a perfect destination for those of you who want to see these majestic animals in their natural world.

But there is so much more to experience at Machu Picchu. From the ritual stone Intihuatana and picturesque Sun Gate to the sacred Temple of the Sun and one of Machu Picchu’s best scenic overlooks Funerary Rock – the historic beauty here is unparalleled.

A huge chunk of Amazon rainforest lays within the faraway lands of Peru. Teaming with life and splendour, the Amazon is a must visit for all worldly travellers. Take a hike to discover the hidden creatures encased in the leafy world or hop aboard a riverboat and experience the wonders of the Amazonian waterways in style. After all, Peru is home to more than just their llama’s, so who knows what you may find.

One of the Earth’s few ancient lakes, Lake Titicaca sits high above sea level. Thought by the Andean to be the birthplace of the sun, this Lake is home to landmarks left behind by historic highland cultures.  Whether you travel to the human-made floating islands of Islas Uros, visit the 17th century Casa del Corregidor or stay at the oldest steamship on the lake, former British gunship, Yavari; one thing is for sure, you will be captivated by this enchanting deep-blue lake.
