Mortal Fools is a creative learning, theatre and drama charity working with children and young people based in Ashington, Northumberland. The charity supports the development of mental health, wellbeing, self-esteem, education and skills.

Mortal Fools applied for a grant to work with Ashington theatre groups; children and young people taking part in these theatre groups lack fair access to opportunities as a result of deprivation, socio-economic disadvantage, neurodivergence and disability.

With the funding from the Hays Travel Foundation, the theatre groups have been able to work with professionals to create an immersive community walk-through event in Ashington called ‘Light Up!’. Through the project, the participants have been able to explore skills such as creative writing, spoken word, physical theatre and physical effects.

Mortal Fools have reported that since the start of the project that there have already been noticeable improvements in personal development, skills and confidence and we cannot wait to see how the rest of the project goes!
