Salou is located in the Spanish region of Catalonia on the Costa Dorada. This aptly named Costa (literally "the Gold Coast") extends from the north of Barcelona to south of Tarragona with seemingly endless stretches of clean, soft sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Salou is the undisputed capital of this coastline which is one of the Mediterranean's most popular playgrounds.
The resort is particularly favoured by British tourists, partly because of its proximity to the nearby airport of Reus which is only 15 minutes drive away. One of the biggest attractions of Salou is of course the mega theme park, Port Aventura, which is right alongside the resort. The world-renowned Dragon Khan rollercoaster, with no less than eight terrifying loop-the-loops, dominates the skyline for miles around. Salou also offers a host of other attractions not least of which are the beaches. The main beach of white sand is long and wide, shelving gently into the sea providing ideal conditions for young children.
The resort is fully geared to the needs of international tourists. There are a huge number of bars, restaurants and clubs. You'll find most varieties of international cuisine here as well as first class restaurants specialising in Catalan dishes with the emphasis on fresh fish, local produce and rice. Salou is ideally placed for exploring some fascinating cities and major tourist attractions, including the Salvador Dali museum at Figueres, the beautiful city of Barcelona with its fabulous Gaudi architecture and the awe-inspiring mountain monastery at Montserrat
